Mauritius is not a popular tourist destination that attracts foreigners for its beautiful beaches and tropical weather. There are an increasing number of people that are viewing the island as a working place and given the increasing number of jobs that are being created on this great and fantastic island there is great opportunities for overseas people.
Mauritius has recently gone through some changes in its economical system and has shifted from the production of sugar alone to a more service oriented economy. This mean that today you have jobs openings in the area of tourism with the creations of more and more hotels, in the business and outsourcing department, in the information technology sector and the offshore financial sector. Indeed the objective of the government is to develop a multi-pillar economy so as to be able to sustain the development of the island.
The Mauritius Labor law states that the basic working week is 45 hours, and overtime is limited to 10 hours per week and that employees is entitled to 14 days of paid leave and 18 days of paid sick leave. There is a month of bonus pay at the end of the year and is not indexed to performance. However there are companies that give as much as two to three months bonus because of exceptional financial performance.
