Mauritius Newspaper
There are a lot of newspapers that are present in Mauritius that contribute to make the island an informed island. Most of the newspapers provide a balanced coverage of all that is happening on the island without fear of the government in place. Usually the newspapers are critical of both the government and the opposition.
There are both daily newspapers and weeklies that are published on the island and the majority of them are written in French with some English sections. There are some newspapers such as News on Sunday that is written entirely in English but they do not attract a large number of readers.
There are two main media groups that dominate the press on the island namely Le Mauricien Ltee and La Sentinelle Ltd and they both produce daily newspapers and weeklies.
Le Mauricien Ltee produces the Le Mauricien, a daily that is published in the afternoon from Monday to Friday and is written in French. On Saturdays the newspaper is out in the morning while on Sundays, Le Mauricien Ltee publishes Week-End that is arguably the most read weekly in Mauritius on Sundays.
La Sentinelle Ltd publishes the daily newspaper L'express and the weekly L'express dimanche that is out every Sunday. L'express is written in French with some sections that are dedicated to English occasionally.
Both these two media groups do not seem to support any of the political parties that are present on the island and seem to report the activities objectively. Occasionally there is report that people want to sue one of the newspapers because of false news but usually this is not that serious.
All the newspapers that are produced by La Sentinelle Ltd and Le Mauricien Ltee are available online and can be read from wherever you are.
There are however newspapers that are present on the island that clearly belong to some political parties and will tend to cover only their activities positively. They are however a minority and do not attract a lot of readers.
There are also a whole variety of magazines that are published on the island some by the two above named media groups and some of them are also available online.
