Weddings in Mauritius
Mauritius is rapidly becoming a choice destination for weddings as well as honeymoons. People are increasingly viewing this destination as a dream one for the most exciting moment of their life. The wonderful beaches, sun and sky surely contribute to make your wedding a moment of pure pleasure.
The legislation in Mauritius has indeed been recently changed to allow foreigners to marry in the country without having to re-marry in their home country. However there are certain rules that need to be followed depending on the country that you come from and it is advised to seek advice from your tour operators.
The normally required formalities are that both parties should be over 18 years old or have the appropriate legal consent of the parents. There are also some documents that has to be submitted in two copies to your tour operator at least 10 weeks before the actual marriage take place namely the duly completed application form for marriage of non-residents, 10 year valid passports, Deed poll if you have changed your name, death certificate and previous marriage certificate if applicable, the birth certificates of the couple and 2 passport size photographs each.
If you have documents that are not in English then you will have to arrange for them to be translated. Great care should be taken in submitting your documents because you may face the risk of having your wedding cancelled. This is why it is always advised to bring with you the original of your documents if ever a problem might arise. Furthermore any delay in the arrival of the documents can cause some charges to be applied.
If you follow all the above policy then there is no reason why your wedding cannot be done on the island. If ever you have any problems or questions feel free to contact your tour operator well before the date of your marriage so as to be able to do the necessary formalities.
Mauritius is surely a great and romantic place to get married and this can be very easy if only you do all the necessary formalities well before time to prevent any unpleasant surprise.
